Well, I adored this one! Moody Captain Brendan & party girl Piper were so fun to read about & I loved the whole little town of Westport. Sweet & spicy, small town romcom! Yes please!
“That’s crazy. If he liked me, why wouldn’t he just ask me out?”
They traded a mystified look.
Hannah sucked in a breath. “Do you think he’s, like, courting you?”
Piper laughed. “What? No.” She had to press a hand to her abdomen to keep a weird, gooey sensation at bay. “Okay, but if he is, what if it’s working?”
“Is it?”
“I don’t know. No one’s ever built me anything!”
Reading about characters that are more than what meets the eye is always a nice surprise. Brendan with his many layers and baggage and Piper growing and learning so much about herself, gave this book substance. The characters here felt completely original and laugh-out-loud funny.
He grunted. “You ready?”
“Ready for what?”
“For me to ask you to dinner yet.”
Her pulse tripped all over itself. Got up. Tripped again. “Did you think you needed to build a pergola to convince me?”
“No. I, uh . . .” He tossed down the rag, shoved his hands into his pockets. “I needed something to keep me busy while I worked up the nerve to ask.”
“Oh.”
This was… so, so hot. I don’t even have the words to describe it. I enjoyed greatly how sex was described here. How the author put into words and painted a very vivid picture of what those two were feeling. What was so particular about this book and what made me like it even more was that it didn’t really feel like something was missing or some big conflict was coming. Brendan and (especially) Piper were able to work through their fears and baggage while still being together. They communicated and talked through every speed bump that they encountered. They weren’t afraid to proclaim their feelings and let the other person know exactly how they felt about each other.
“Thank you,” she whispered, running a finger down the center of his chest. “Such a gentleman.”
“That’s right.” He tipped her chin up. “That’s exactly what I’m going to be, Piper.”
Her bravado slipped a little. “I guess we’ll see about that.”
“I guess we will.”
“One day soon, Piper, I’m going to fuck you so goddamn hard.” He alternated between dragging his swollen tip through her saturated folds and stroking himself. “Going to fuck the word ‘friend’ right out of your beautiful mouth. You’ll forget how to say anything but my name. Real quick, honey.”
Piper was a breath of fresh air for me. She isn’t your typical heroine and that made her all the more special for me. Maybe she started the book as an airhead but seeing how she grew and her slow change brought me hope and pride. It was amazing seeing how and why things changed for her, how she improved herself. How in the end she didn’t decide to stay just for him, but also for the life she was building for herself.
“Mmmm.” She looked up at him through one eye. “I don’t have my wits about me, Brendan. You can’t use anything I say tonight against me. It’s all a wash.”
“Okay, I promise.”
“Good, because I missed you. Again.” She kissed his chin, worked her way around to his ear, whined against it in a way that made his cock stiffen. “This morning with you was the best, best, best sex of my life.”
She said it right as the music cut out.
Everyone at the bar heard it.
You might be thinking, if I liked this book so much, then why the three stars? Well…The only thing I didn’t like about this book was the sexism, misogyny and toxic masculinity. I get that it was only mentioned and sometimes even made as a joke, but I can stand when men disregard women in my every day life and so I’ve made a point of not thinking it’s okay in books either. Him implying “that the idea of women is comforting, but their actual presence would be a disaster” is not cute or okay. And having female authors, that go through what women have to go through every single day, add that to their books is not okay. Also, feminine pleasure? What the fuck it that? Like guys can’t get pleasure form knowing their partner masturbates thinking of them? And saying that because he’s a man “there are balls and pride and testosterone in the mix” to excuse the way he acts? This feels like the kind of relationship that would answer “Brendan” when asked who wears the pants in the relationship simply because he’s the man. Yuck.
4.5 al principio no me gustaba taaaaaanto porque creo que seguía muy traumada con TLH peeeero omg lo terminé amando! Brendan es la cosa más cute y hot del mundo, donde meto mi curriculum para uno de esos?

Really sweet and feel-good, very reminiscent of Mutt and Alexis. Spice scenes 10/10.
I honestly don't really remember everything anymore because it is like 2-3 weeks ago that I listened to this. I do remember loving their chemistry, but hating the conflict at the end. It was just so stupid and preventable, it felt very dumb. Also, while I love Pipter, I cannot really believe sometimes how people can be as stupid als she was in the beginning of this book, so that also wasn't my favourite
