Someone recommended this book as a rom-com meets Schitt’s Creek. It was a little too *descriptive* for my delicate sensibilities ☺️ but still a fun book to read.
I wanted to like this a lot. I had read good reviews about it and it was on Romance Top Summer Reads at my public library. And it had a huge waitlist, so I thought it was going to be spectacular. What I got was a subpar read.
This was one of Tessa Bailey's better reads. But the MFC was immature and almost babyish. I understand that character had everything handed to her. But even the way the MMC treated her was like she was some child that needed to be protected. The enemies to lover's troupe wasn't quite that. He hated for her about 2 hours before he realized her was wrong and started loving her.
Despite some of the bad qualities of the book there were some good ones. I love the relationship between Piper and her sister, Hannah, was wholesome and beautiful. And their sisterly bond sections are ones that leave you wishing you could call your own "Sister". The hint of Fox and Hannah's relationship left me ready for the sequel. And the beautiful picture of the small time life that Tessa Bailey wrote up left me wanting to move to a small town in Washington.
Overall, I think it was a 3.9. Only wish that there was a little more depth to the relationship of Piper and Brendan, and even in Piper herself.

It was cute! I needed something light because I’m in sort of a slump. Piper is very funny and Brendan is hot 🥵 love them together.

Felt the need to eye roll a lot...
A lot of red flags, and seemed like mostly a book about sex and obsessive codependent behavior.
Hard to admire almost anything about any character (except for the sister) - but I do give it points for some originality (namely a protagonist who is blatantly a ditz and not admirable).

So, I liked the characters I'd say. Piper did come off as an airhead at the start but she had a good character development as the book progressed. I liked Brendan too. The things that put me off were the excess of those graphic lovemaking scenes and all the cringee, cheesy dialogues. And I felt that Piper was sexualised a lot too. And the worst part was the ending. I was expecting some serious conflict happening because of how it was been talked about. But then when I read about how the conflict was Abe slipping and hurting his head (ofcourse it had to happen that day) so Piper couldn't make it to the Dock on time and then Brendan being late for the bar opening (I mean duh). And then the dramatics that followed on. The author should have atleast come up with a string conflict. Anyway, it's an okay read if you're looking for a light, casual read. But don't if extensively descriptive and frequent sex scenes make you wanna throw up too.

This book was fine. I read it because of the movie hype and idk…it was cute enough but cringe and there were a lot of annoying and underdeveloped characters. I appreciate Piper’s journey of beginning to love herself because she is finally being loved for who she really is. I think the deaths of the characters loved ones were used in a really shallow way. The topic of death was thrown around nearly every chapter but there was never any deeper exploration of grief. I get that this is a light-hearted rom com but there is only so light-hearted you can be when two dead people are supposedly impacting the lives of the main characters (except, lol, they don’t at all!! both characters are somehow, like, totally deeply unaffected). that part was weird. and the smut was cringe. i’ll probably read the second one because it was good enough to listen to as an audiobook while I do other things.
