I did enjoy the story and Fionn but the spice in this one was not for me.

Scythe & Sparrow (Ruinous Love #3) by Brynne Weaver
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🌶️🌶️🌶️
Golden retriever vs black cat · Slow burn · Friends to lovers · Dark romcom · Forced proximity · 416 pages

Prefacing this with the fact that I listened to all three Kane brothers’ books following the tandem chart—which puts the events in chronological order across the series—and I’m so glad I did. It made the whole thing feel like one seamless, addictive story. Highly recommend.

Following the tandem chart, this is actually the second book you start (yes, even though it’s technically book 3) but the last one you finish. This means Fionn and Rose get the longest slow burn of them all.

While I love a slow burn, I wasn’t quite as invested in Fionn and Rose’s romance as I wanted to be. Fionn was the ultimate golden retriever—sweet, patient, endlessly caring—but maybe a bit too tame. I wouldn’t have minded a little more growl to him. Still, I liked that each brother had such distinct personalities.

Rose, on the other hand, was chaos wrapped in charm. She’s basically a walking catastrophe—but when you pair her with a doctor? He’s there to mend the broken bones, and I was eating it up. She was hilarious, snarky, and fun to follow.

Like the others, this book blends dark and light so well—from Barbara the raccoon, to the crochet club “Suture Sisters,” there was always something to make me grin. And yes, it’s Fionn who’s the crochet maker. As someone who crochets, knits, and sews, I loved seeing that little piece of myself reflected in a dark romcom. And Rose’s project? Absolutely hilarious.

I debated between a 4⭐ and 5⭐ rating. If I’d read it on its own, it probably would’ve been 4⭐—but as part of the trilogy, which felt like one long book, it’s 5⭐ from me. I’d absolutely revisit it using the tandem read. The way their timelines intersect with the other brothers’ stories just works so well, making you feel truly immersed in the whole Kane family.
