This definitely gave a pretty comprehensive overview of Hercules and all of the people who interacted or were affected by him. It's definitely a sad story and the 1997 animation of Hercules doesn't touch the darkness at all. It was quite an easy read and I liked the structure of the stories and how they were weaved together. It was pretty easy to keep most of the names and stories straight but a few times, the I names were hard to keep track

I admire the author for trying to tell Hercules story. Sadly it did not work for me. There were too many POV's, which made me more confused than enjoying the story. The pacing was odd and the writing style way too juvenile. It was rather cringe to read the POV's sometimes. Although I did like Meg's and Iole's POV's.

I have always been obsessed with Greek mythology and Herc is my favorite myth, so I had high expectations going into this book. I appreciated the humor and irony but I think the author included too many characters and the way she wrote it made it very difficult to parse out the different characters. I love a retelling but this one kind of missed the mark for me.
