⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In the past, I’ve always been a little intimidated by Sanderson books because high fantasy can be a struggle for me to get through sometimes. Turns out, I shouldn’t have worried. The author’s writing style is easy to read and has a nice flow which allows you to slide right into the story.
I really flew through this one and read it in just a few days time.

It had great humour and lots of banter which was very entertaining. The world building of Elantris itself was amazingly done as well.
The concept was so original and well thought out, there wasn’t a single passage where I got bored and had trouble focusing.

However, as much as I loved it, I couldn’t get past the fact that the female characters were severely underdeveloped and could’ve played a much bigger role.

All in all, I still can’t believe this was one of his earlier works. It was my first Sanderson book but definitely not my last.
I think his other series have the potential to be 5 star reads for me. But for now, this one was a solid 4 stars!

It was Brandon’s first and he could only improve from here. I felt the story became repetitive at times. Character motives were establish but they were repeated more times than necessary. Dialogues felt weak and unremarkable. Elantris, itself, was quite interesting. I wished we had spent more time there with the story.

Political turmoil, religious battles, light romance, and a splash of mysterious magic.
