Love Letters [Rose Harbor Series Book #3] by Debbie Macomber
Read March 2024
Love Letters is very well written, heartfelt, and all about love and forgiveness. It makes your heart feel like it will BURST! An amazing addition to the Rose Harbor Series, for sure.
Positive messages: 5/5
Some positive messages include always forgiving, being honest, and listening to others. Understanding, love, and family are all evident. Even though many characters make poor decisions, they learn to forgive and put the past behind them. Broken marriages are fixed, families restored, and friends are reunited.
Positive role models: 4/5
(Negative role model) Roy and his wife have both slept with other people of the opposite sex. (Positive role models) However, many characters learn about forgiveness and honesty, along with them. Maggie has the option to have an abortion but doesn’t. Jo Marie learns to overcome sadness and anger with joy and love. She takes great care of everyone at the inn. Ellie learns to forgive Tom and try to understand where he and her father are coming from.
Drinking/Drugs: 1/5
Ellie has a dream that includes drinking wine. Maggie and Roy have a margarita. Roy and Maggie talk about how Roy got very drunk and was in bed with another woman.
Language: 0/5
None present.
Violence and Gore: 0/5
None present. However, a table does fall on someone’s leg and they are hurt.
Sex, Romance, and Nudity: 4/5
It implies that characters had sex when dating; says Scott dropped out of school and they eloped. Talks about how their marriage ended because Scott was having an affair with another woman, which he tried to cover up. Characters kiss. Maggie explains that she found sexually explicit emails sent by Roy, one saying that she is a ‘cold fish’ in bed. Virginia asks Ellie if her boyfriend tried to get her in bed but Ellie says no and that he is not like that. Maggie talks about when Roy was young and went to a frat party which was more of a strip club. Roy and Maggie talk about how Roy got very drunk and was in bed with another woman. Characters blow each other kisses and talk about love.
What Parents Should Know:
This is a mature but well written romance. There are no sexual scenes, but it is implied that some characters have had sex in the past. Lots of kissing and talking about love. However, it is very heartfelt and has many positive messages. It is engaging and interesting, but not educational (it is not historical fiction or nonfiction, so what is to be expected of a romance!). Loved this! Perfect for mature teens, young adults, and adults who are looking for a closed-door, sweet romance. Debbie Macomber is an amazing author who has written over 200 books! I would recommend any of them.
Age Range Recommendation: 14+ YA/A
Reading Level (by grade): 9th-12th

Debbie Macomber is an easy guilty pleasure. She writes simple rom-com books that weave my favorite nerdy things like small towns and knitting and she can tell a Christmas story. I like the Cedar Cove series and appreciate its continuation in the Rose Harbor series. This installment featured a fractured couple and a newly starting out couple. I liked the weaving off these two stories. As for Jo Marie and Mark, you can see that from a mile away and yet it still slowly rolls on. I'll keep on reading, because I like the setting. Though this book didn't wow me, I enjoyed it nonetheless.
I can't believe I have to wait a whole year for the next book. This was yet another gem in the Rose Harbor Inn series, such richly developed characters and story lines. If you've read the first 2 or the Cedar Cove series then you know what I mean. I've read them all and I lived in Washington State for a long time so reading about the characters I know in the places that I've been gives me a warm feeling, almost like coming home. I really liked the guests this time and will anxiously be waiting to read more about Mark's past.
This is the perfect summer read. I don't usually read Debbie Macomber and I expected the story to be slow, but it wasn't. Love Letters is the third Rose Harbor Novel. Even though the characters had already been introduced I didn't feel like I was missing anything. There was plenty going on in the story, and it was really three stories in one - the story of Jo Marie (the inn owner), the story of Roy and Maggie (a couple visiting from out of town, and the story of Ellie Reynolds, a young lady who meets her boyfriend for the fist time as well as her father. I was sorry to reach the end of the book because I wanted to story to continue. The last few pages set up the next book in the series with the introduction of some new guests. I was so intrigued by the story of Jo Marie and Mark that I may have to revisit Rose Harbor Inn for future installments in this series.

Macomber effortlessly blends romance, and timely issues of growing up, with a bit of mystery. Her style appeals to a wide age range because she includes a wider age range. The narrator, Lorelei King , brings the characters to life and greatly adds to the enjoyment of the story.
