An excellent book. I read this after seeing the movie and appreciated the greater detail. Scenes from the movie did come to mind as I read, but not always. I really like the way the book's structure mirrors that of the Cloud Atlas Sextet, and the matrioschka doll concept. Quite brilliant, really.

First time through. Definitely going to come back to it later, but right now, it was more of a surface experience figuring out the connections.
Interesting, feel like it needs to be longer. All the stories seem too condensed, need more expansion.
I was really torn between 3 and 4 on this one, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt...
I liked the book once I got into it and the structure of it. My mistake, I think, was reading it too slowly. I probably missed out on many of the connections between the individual stories that I would have caught if I had read it at a quicker pace. I thought the author did an amazing job of writing six different stories in six different genres, all with their own unique tone and voice. I thought the Sonmi 451 stood on it's own as a really good short sci fi story. I do plan on re reading it at some point.

Spectacular. The structure sounds contrived, but isn't. One of the best books I've read in a decade.
I wanted to like this book. But I didn't care about any of the characters or the plot. When I got to the 5th story, it seemed way too much science fiction to me. I was reading and reading, but only to get it over with. When I decided to quit there was a ton of relief.

Story-telling and characterization are the strengths here. Literary fiction where I encountered the literary form in various avatars. Each tale is crisply told. Perhaps the best of them, for me, was the fourth voice, that of Timothy Cavendish. It's trapped in its own adversity but is humorously told. Each narrative voice tells a tale you could put your trust in.
Would have no qualms revisiting this one.
