A really interesting take on the Dracula story. I thought it was a bit too long, but the ending was very exciting and kept you on the edge of your seat. It makes me want to go back and reread the original!

I was actually really close to the end when I realized I wasn't enjoying it at all and mainly wanted to punch the characters.

This book kept me up until 4 am not wanting to put it down! A perfect blend of gothic and classic horror.

Strong story and interesting angle.

This pulled from all the best parts of vampire lore and creepiness and built a foundation that was interesting to think about that maybe all stories and lore come from some semblance of truth

Quit 150 pages in. Not really what I wanted, which was more character development of the nanna but she was kept a mystery too long. I was also thinking it was going to be the back story of Dracula himself

3.5 stars.

I feel crazy for not giving this 5 stars. Unfortunately, I just didn't totally love it? Reading the first half or so felt like a chore at times, because the shifting viewpoints dropped little nuggets of information and I'm not great at remembering everything I should. There was so much build-up that it was a bit tedious to read at the start. I don't usually mind slow burns, but this one just didn't click with me.

It was well-written and the characters were well-thought out though, and once the action finally started happening, I really enjoyed it and flew through the rest of the book.

One final note, the Author's Note basically says that Bram Stoker meant Dracula as a nonfiction warning???? And Dacre Stoker/J.D. Barker seem to believe there's truth to it?? I'm not totally sure how to process that information.
