Some of these reviews for this are WILD. It reminded me of Roald Dahl…big, sweeping message wrapped up in a fantastical world. It’s okay that this book exists.

When I hear something is a fairy tale for adults, it usually ends up being dark and gritty. I am so happy that this book turned out to be a fairy tale for adults that is bursting with charm, whimsy, quirkiness, and a bit of romance. It was so heartwarming and wholesome, all while being incredibly creative and inclusive. Some might find the story to be sickly sweet or predictable, but I thought it was like a cozy cup of cocoa or a freshly baked cookie: perfectly sweet and delightful. I appreciated the allegory, which although not subtle, tells important messages about prejudice, bias, and living life more fully.

I loved this sweet story, and feel like everyone can relate to their perspective being shifted and their mind and heart being blown wide open by being exposed to and living among those who aren't exactly like we are. Should definitely be required reading for Jr high or high school. Such a lovely, lovely story.

This was a sweet book to read aloud to my boys and I loved it's message of acceptance.
