Maggie Ryan is strong, independent, loyal, full of sarcasm, and extremely guarded with her true feelings. And for the most part has a happy and successful life. But at times she feels alone and questions why she cannot seem to feel any type of connection with the guys she dates. One night Maggie decides to use the spell book that Alexa had to create a spell of her own and hopefully conjure up a Mr. Right.
And then there is billionaire Michael Conte, who is a charming and smooth flirt, with seductive eyes and a gorgeous physique to match. Family is important to him and as the eldest in his family he takes the responsibility of caring and protecting his family very seriously. His sister Venezia calls him from Italy upset and hysterical that due to a longstanding family tradition their mother will not allow her to marry her longtime boyfriend until Michael marries first. Michael has no plans to get married in the immediate future, but he wants Venezia to be able to get married and start her own family, and so tries to come up with a plan to help rectify the situation.
At a party, Michael overhears Maggie talk about her business trip to Milan and he gets an idea that hopefully will solve his problems. Michael gives Maggie a proposition. Pretend to be his wife for the week they are in Italy, meet his family, and pretend they are in love. She will only agree if he promises to stay away from Alexa when they come back to the states. He doesn't want to hurt Alexa or end their friendship, but he wants his sister to be happy, so he agrees and they head off to Italy.
Upon arriving in Italy, Maggie soon meets Michael's entire family. As the head of the household Michael is used to being in control. What he says goes. Maggie challenges that and tries to open his eyes to how he handles things with some of his family. Because they both have strong personalities, they tend to clash in certain situations. They play the part of loving couple in public all the while struggling with their growing attraction.
Michael and Maggie are a feisty spirited couple. I love them as a couple and think they are perfect for each other. Their chemistry is electric. It goes from normal to fire with them in just a matter of seconds. They drive each other crazy, but end up getting to know each other better in the process which could possibly lead to more than just a physical attraction.
Even though I received this book as an ARC, I liked it so much that I ended up buying a copy for myself.

Eh! Enjoyed it but didn't love it. It was entertaining, but I don't think I'll be reading it again.
The story of two characters that were introduced in the first book of the series, Maggie, Nick's sister and Alexa's best friend, and Michael, Nick's business partner.
The two were set up and went on a date during the events of the previous book, but although they hit it off, Michael refused Maggie's suggestion of a second date. Maggie, who had her share of trust issues before getting rejected, took it to heart and started avoiding Michael and generally keeping him at arm's length.
Michael, who found himself in a bind due to his family's traditional views, needs a wife and fast, and the best option he can think of is Maggie. When he suggests she pretends to be his wife for a week on a trip to Italy, she agrees on the condition that he cuts ties with Alexa, whom she believes he has designs on despite her happy marriage. Michael agrees, and the two spend the week with Michael's family, falling in love in the process.
While Michael stops fighting his feelings when he realizes he loves her, Maggie is stubbornly resisting hers, convinced that he is in love with her best friend.
Michael has to put some effort in convincing her to believe him and agree to make their marriage a reality, and he eventually succeeds, after a big romantic gesture.
The series continues with the story of a couple that was introduced in this book, Michael's youngest sister Carina and her unrequited crush, his best friend Max in [b:The Marriage Mistake|15729261|The Marriage Mistake (Marriage to a Billionaire, #3)|Jennifer Probst|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1348628724s/15729261.jpg|21408119].

I'm really enjoying these books a lot. I love how the woman all try a love spell to Earth Mother looking for true love, and when she manages to bring it, they manage to screw it up. Maggie Ryan went out on a blind date with Michael Conte set up by her sister-in-law, Alexa. Who Maggie swears Michael is in love with. When Michael needs to head to Italy to go home to settle some matters, he asks Maggie (who is also heading to Italy) to be his pretend wife. Well I think we know what happens from there.

It is time for my annual read of my favorite book from this series. I am just a sucker for characters who don't see their value, especially women who are sassy and yet vulnerable. Maggie is literally who I wanted to be growing up. Am I her? No, but I enjoy reading how her and Michael grow as characters. Their dynamic is great and it is still one of my favorites all these years later.
Minor: Rape

After reading The Marriage Bargain, I was itching to get my hands on the next two books in the series. i am so glad to have finally gotten a chance to read this one! I loved Maggie and Michael in the first book and was hoping against hope that the blind date would work out.
I was disappointed when I started this book that Maggie wasn't already with Michael, but soon couldn't put it down. Michael's sister is wanting to get married and since there was a death bed promise of an ancient tradition being upheld, Michael is forced to "marry" so that his sister can. Michael approaches Maggie with the proposition of pretending to be his wife while they visit his family in Italy. Maggie and Michael have a love hate relationship and are constantly fighting and at each other's throats. But she agrees on the terms that Michael will stay away from her sister-in-law whom she believes Michael is in love with.
Things progress, and the two soon realize that underneath everything they are falling for each other, of course Maggie has had a few things in her past that have turned her off of love and she runs, but Michael continues to fight for her and things turn out wonderful. I can't wait to read about Carina in the next book!
