Too many people will miss this book as it goes under the radar. Don't be one of them: it's stark, bold and beautiful.

The excitement that has kept them warm becomes a glow that cheers hearts but leaves feet to freeze. [368]

Whilst I found the format a tiny bit jarring at times, this book might well become a comfort read. Somehow it just reads as gentle and soothing in spite of the theme, or maybe thanks to it. Lulu Alison’s descriptive style of writing felt like laying back on a mild summer’s day, eyes closed, and just breathing.

It started off well, but after we stopped Jesse's sole perspective, it wasn't for me. I don't really like dystopian books, I only chose it due to it being a book club pick.
