BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU
Is it possible to truly control someone’s mind? We know people can control other’s actions and force them to obey, but is it truly possible to make someone want to obey? Make them forget they are oppressed and abused, to make them willfully ignore what is right in front of them? Can you make someone believe that lies are truth and truth are lies, even though they know it cannot be reality? Is it possible? I honestly find it difficult to see how it could be, but this book paints a terrifying picture of what life could be like if it were, indeed, possible.
Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.
Of course, this book is a classic with its creation of the phenomenon of Big Brother and its portrayal of a totalitarian regime almost too horrifying to read or believe. It opens up many philosophical questions, ethical debates and political maneuvours that are still talked about in the real world today, and the whole thing is unquestionably iconic and influencial for that alone.

Nonetheless, I think I expected more from this book. I was expecting a better plot and better characters; I expected to feel more. Instead, it was definitely still interesting, dark and, in some ways, shocking, but I didn’t find myself truly caring about anyone. I also struggled to relate to (or even like) the main character, which made it harder for me to imagine his situation as my own.

It's the type of book where I just sit and process what I just read and it's a brilliant piece of literature that's insightful on control and how propaganda works, it's unfortunate but no surprise it's getting banned in American schools
