The scene made me nostalgic for a girlhood I'd never had.
Three best friends, drinking sweet wine. The prism hanging from the fishing line in the window, and the jewelry hanging from nails, and the nail polish on the dresser, and the uneaten bags of fruit candy. We were sharing secrets in the fading light, laughing like sleigh bells, wearing colorful socks. I felt like I was getting an education.

I enjoyed this book. Not a lot going on here but I do like when girls get to be freaks, losers, weirdos, etc. I do wish some of the side characters had been given more attention because I felt like they all fell a little flat and I could not get myself to care about them. The most stunning character of all was Alaska itself - God’s own country. Maybe I should go to Alaska …?
