Good first book in series!
The romance was faced paced and not my cup of tea.
But I’m certainly interested in Tessa, Jensen, Tuck and Liam and I will continue with this series.

It’s weird to say Catherine Cowles is a comfort author for me, considering she writes romantic suspense. But she is. With her novels, I know what I’m getting, I’m familiar with her writing, the formula of her stories, and I’m going to have a good time. Her FMC’s are always running from past trauma, and her MC’s are down bad and obsessed, willing to do whatever the FMC needs to protect them.
Taylor needs a change of scenery after losing the most important person in the world to her. She runs to a remote small town to get away from the noise of the city. Getting a job and a local cafe and renting a cabin from a local. Her landlords son is also a cop in the area and they form an unlikely connection. Neither of them wants to acknowledge their chemistry, or the tension between them. But sometimes, there is nothing to do but go along for the ride.
Highlights:
📌 Romantic Suspense
📌 Small Town
📌 Protective MMC
📌 Dual POV

A beautiful, slow burn, romantic suspense! The story is woven with loss, grief, moving on and falling in love, with some suspense thrown in!
Both the main characters had their faults. Taylor was so stubborn and was constantly pushing people away. Walker was a bit overbearing and protective, even though he had his reasons. But the two of them balanced each other out so well, so it worked for them.
I thought I had the twist figured out, but I was wrong! I was definitely surprised to find out who the culprit was at the end. The mystery of it all definitely kept me on my toes.
A solid start to the Sutter Lake series!

Romance is fine. I can't stand the opposite sex talks = they're together mindset.
Didn't know this was murder mystery, thiller bullshit.
