This book was honestly one of the best books I’ve ever read it was sad but also happy (sometimes) anyway yeah it was really really good- by Sam

When they said this was an important read, it really is. The fear and ugliness of war is shrouded in the innocence of childhood - but how wondrous it is to see bravery like this. My heart aches.

A fabulous children's book that adults will like, too!

I really enjoyed this book and thought it was a well-done story about WWII. It's not action packed or anything like that, but it does a nice job of telling the story of a young girl trying to help her Jewish best friend in Denmark during Hitler's occupation. The main reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I felt like something was missing, but can't quite figure out what it was at the moment. The other reason I didn't give it five stars is because it's not a book I'll read over and over again for either enjoyment or to look at the writing. That being said, I'd definitely recommend it to YA and middle grade readers who want to understand the kind of experiences people their own age went through during WWII.
adventurous sad

This book surprised me with it’s beauty and depth in such a short story. I loved learning about the courage of the people in Denmark during WWII. I am looking forward to reading this aloud with my children.

I have probably read this book 4 times. It was required for every single one of my children's literature courses and I believe I read it when i was younger. This is still a great read and a gentler introduction to the horrors that were the holocaust. Grades 4+
adventurous dark sad tense fast-paced

My students loved reading this book in class together. The chapters that ended in cliff hangers received many gasps!
