Overall the storyline was good. But I am NOT a fan of his writing. Maybe if he took a few writing classes I’d be more inclined to read another book of his

A page turner for sure but also — fairly predictable. The writing is better than a dime store paperback but not as good as literary fiction. There are three big twists in this book. I figured out two of them extremely early on and I figured out the last one with about 15 pages to go. In fairness, I would not call figuring out the big reveal a few pages before it happens some sort of mystery reader wizardry, but in the grand scheme of twists and turns I’m sticking with “fairly predictable” for this one.
Well then — why 4 stars? Because! It was still a fun read. A sensational cold case. The victim found hanging from the balcony of his Catskills mansion and his kinky S&M loving mistress/wife’s best friend has been pegged for the crime. There’s so much evidence pointing in her direction it really should be an open and shut case.
And it is. The grand jury is ready to convene. Except that the suspect is just getting this news … in her attorney’s office on the 80th floor of the World Trade Center. It is September 11, 2001.
Twenty years later, a rising star investigative TV journalist with a secret history of her own has decided to reopen the case in an effort to boost her contract negotiations and maybe posthumously clear the suspect’s name. With the help of the lead detective on the case who was since a disgraced FBI agent, she will set off on a long and windy road…
…See? You totally want to know what happens don’t you? Great premise. Good characters. Decent writing. Page turning. Desire to know how it ended (even though I already knew). Four stars!

I really got into the first part of this book. I found the MFC to be interesting. I had just watched the Bernie Madoff documentary & so I found this backstory interesting. I liked how it had multiple POVs. But towards the middle, it all started to fall apart. It got so rushed. Then, everything the characters did was a secret. I had guessed the ending because it was made obvious because of all the secret keeping. I just really was disappointed in how it was rushed. I don’t like how every book is trying to be a Gone Girl shocking twist. If you’re doing to do that, do it well, not half-assed.
