I'd say 2.5 stars. Average. Not awful and I did feel compelled to keep reading, but I found it very hard to connect with Naomi who tells us her first person view of the story. A dark, bold plot line reveals shocking twists and turns as we follow Naomi and Charlie through semi-parallel roller coasters of emotions, but continued inner monologue from our narrator was more disturbing than descriptive to me.

Some of the plot twists in this one were particularly nasty. In a good way, but it was still a gruesome story. Best to read it on the beach on a sunny day.

Good story, very engaging. I still can't stand Naomi but she grew slightly more tolerable as the novel progressed.

The final straw. Although I have long enjoyed the easy to read, crime thriller style of Sophie Hannah’s writing, I just can’t ignore her misogynistic portrayal of women any longer. This book could have been written by one of the guests at the stag do, with the lack of respect for women it shows. I personally found it a bit upsetting to read. Disappointing as I like the Zailer and Waterhouse storyline.

Characters:7/10 I struggled to understand the motivation for several characters. I enjoyed that Naomi had a unique profession. Her communication style of telling the story to Robert was also unique.
