The first part of this book was really, really hard to get through. Nesta was one of my favorite characters in the second and the third book, and this book shows her journey through severe grief and PTSD following the events of the third book, when she sees her father die in front of her.

It's hard to read the first half of this book, because I just want to shake Nesta and make her understand that everyone just wants to help her, but she's so stubborn and so unwilling to even try and get better that it's disgusting.

A little more than halfway through the book, Nesta has a complete and utter mental breakdown on a journey and that's the turning point for the book.

The pinnacle of this book is when
Nesta holds the archway on the Mountain against the Illyrian males who are also trying to climb the mountain after her.
I would have loved for it to end after the victory.

However, that's not where it ends.
The whole book, Feyre is pregnant, and it's been stated that she will die if she gives birth, as Fae anatomy is not equal to Illyrian anatomy, and the child she is carrying has wings. After Nesta gets back from the Mountain, she has to deal with Feyre going into pre-term labor, the baby dying, and Feyre and Rhys both dying. It's graphic, and I should have just not read the book when I found out that Feyre was pregnant in the beginning and that she would supposedly die at the end. She doesn't, of course, because Nesta gives up her cauldron-stolen power to save them all, but it's frustrating. We didn't need this.

I wouldn't read the first half of the book again. I guess I'd start at Part 3, Valkyrie. And then I'd end after the Mountain.

Nesta and her growth, grit and perseverance are why I give this a good score. How the other character's treated her was why I docked off marks, the other characters were judgmental and challenging to read about because of their attitudes towards Nesta. SPOILER: she should not have had to sacrifice so much for people who put her through hell as a way of showing her character development, that's simply not fair.

Again, my love for this book is so unexplainable. The emotions I feel, the love, everything is just beautiful. My favorite one in the entire series 🥲
