Um. Points for references to Xena, I guess, but ultimately, no. This could have been good if it was written by someone else. Someone that didn't write awkwardly straight sex scenes between these characters.

I'm honestly still beating myself up over not reading this book sooner! I loved everything about it, from the story itself to the characters, everything just flowed so beautifully, I couldn't put it down!

I was completely enraptured by both FMCs in this story, they each stole my heart in their own special way.  Valda and Maris are just so perfect for each other. The constant push and pull is so fun to follow and the banter is A++!

if you are looking for a beautiful Sapphic romance with political intrigue, hidden identities, back stabbing and an adorable oversized cat this is absolutely the book for you!

The sequel is right around the corner and after the cut wrenching ending This story delivered idk if I'm honestly prepared for the story to continue but I have to know what happens to them next!

Favorite Quotes:

“I have opened you up like a true seashell,” she said, her lips hovering over Maris, stealing her breath away. “I have your pearl now.”

"Maris couldn’t help but notice the way the princess’s voice caressed it, drawing out every syllable with a gentle touch. It was as if Valda had taken Maris’s name and transformed it into something more, something magical and alluring."

"I want to see you how much you want me, Seashell."
And gods, she wanted her. She wanted her from the first second she laid eyes on her. She shouldn’t. Not now. Not ever.

✨ Sapphic Romantasy
✨ Third Person, Dual POV
✨ 4.5/5 Spice Level
✨ Queen x Maid
✨ Fated Mates
✨ First in a Series

I’m not even sure where to start with this… (I feel like I’ve said this many times before lol) BUT this book just might be the spicy sapphic romantasy I’ve been waiting for. And when I say spicy, I mean sizzling hot. Pretty much a central part of the book (and I’m definitely not complaining). But beyond that, it’s got a plot with all the tropes that feel so characteristic of the “romantasy” genre. (Not to be confused with romantic fantasy or fantasy romance, apparently.) There is a good balance of romance/spice and fantasy without being TOO fantasy (iykwim). This book feels like a guilty pleasure (because my mom would be horrified by the amount of spice, fr…), but in the best way. I ended up convincing several of my friends to read the book while I was because I kept sending them screenshots (okay it was mostly the spicy parts… can you blame me?).

I’m just obsessed with the dynamic between Valda and Maris. Valda is rough around the edges… but I like it? And Maris likes it. I really enjoy that Maris doesn’t give “damsel in distress” and obviously has her own wants and desires (and one of those is, well, Valda).  She doesn’t come off weak despite being in a less powerful position, and I think Valda’s condition also makes the playing field a bit more even. The way they won each other over (in different aspects) was nice to see.

Anyways, if you’re looking for a sizzling hot sapphic romantasy that feels like it has all the elements that made the romantasy genre popular, well…. Here it is.

(beware potential spoilers below)

Micro-tropes
✨ Magical Strap
✨ Can’t keep their hands off each other
✨ Face sitting

I listen to sapphic romance for all the straight sex - said no one ever.

Story was interesting. Writing was odd. Weirdly not using conjunctions?

I loved this story and the characters. I thoroughly enjoyed it and found myself unable to put it down at times. The reason for only 3 stars is for two reasons:

  1. There were times when the writing was just not good. Repeating adjectives in the same sentence. Sometimes there would be contradictions in back to back paragraphs. It felt repetitive at times. It needed better editing, but being self-published I see how this could happen, so I kept reading bc I loved the characters and story so much. These errors and lapse in writing didn't happen often enough to keep me from finding out more. I will even be picking up the sequel soon.
  2. The last chapter really irked me. I get the reason for it, but that didn't mean I liked reading a male POV after reading only female POV the entire book. I picked up a sapphic book so I didn't have to read a man's POV.

Like I said earlier, none of this will keep me from reading the next one. Anything below 3 stars and I wouldn't pick up a sequel, but in this case I need to know what is happening next.

This book had so many elements of a good story, but put together just simply did not work. Needs heavy editing, but has potential.

I predicted almost the entire book (except the ending, I didn't see all that happening!) Lots of smut, sometimes to the point that I just wanted the story to progress. Lots of punctuation errors as well.

Audiobook was great. Hated the pet name.

Overall, I liked it, and I'll read the next book.
