I enjoyed this book immensely and certainly read it far quicker than most books. It's easy to read and quite interesting. I love romance therefore was turning the page to find out the result of the love triangle. For those of you who missed the hide review because of spoilers, be warned I will be SPOILING things.
I came to read Illusions three years after reading Spells. I didn't remember much of what happened in Spells except for Laurel going to Avalon for summer school and getting closer to Tamani than she should. I remember more of Wings because the faeries being plants interested me greatly.
As you start Illusions it's quite easy to be reminded Laurel picked her human boyfriend David. I've always liked Tamani better, but never had anything against David until this book. He bored me. I don't remember him being this boring. It's not because he's science guy and all they do is study (cause they make out a fair bit too!), but because he became such a DOORMAT. He let Laurel walk all over him and instead of making me pity him and feel mad at Laurel, I became bored of him. Laurel treats David awful - not because she's actually mean to him, but because her closeness with Tamani bothers David and David does nothing about it. Even when he does finally speak up and show Laurel how much it hurts him, he comes crying back to her and apologises saying it's all his fault. Dude! Have some self respect. (If you watch Friends: season 7, ep 18 The One With Joey's Award) I think David needs to watch that part of Bridget Jones Diary (the first) where she quits her job with Daniel Cleaver and it plays "R E S P E C T! Find out what it means to me!"
Therefore for the entire book I was rooting for Tamani and Laurel to get together. I love Tam. I love him. I think he has so much more depth than David. I wanted them to get together, but Laurel doesn't know what she wants. When she finally leaves David and I though her and Tam were going to date, she doesn't want to be with anyone. Which is fine. I still respected that decision and thought it was smart, until she half heartedly asks David to the dance - first as a date, then remembers Tam and tacks on "as friends". I wanted to slap her. Talk about whiplash. She breaks up with David and moments later she and Tamani are making out.
Things get icky with her friend Chelsea too. I totally forgot that Chelsea had a thing for David. It doesn't play one ounce of a role until there needs to be a reason for Laurel to be jealous. I just thought that whole thing was a cluster fuck in an already stupid situation and I don't care for it. Chelsea's feelings felt unreal and out of nowhere. And Laurel's reaction was stupid. They didn't feel like friends.
However, my above thoughts aside, I liked this book. It's like Gossip Girl for me: the characters can act dramatic and stupid, but it's still entertaining and I'll still root for them.
I'm not going to read the last book, Destined, for at least a good five books, but I'll be opening it, eager for the love triangle conclusion. I always seem to root for the guy she doesn't end up with (Twilight, Vampire Academy (TWICE), etc.), but I did get mine with another faerie romance: Wicked Lovely. So maybe the faerie trend will contain and I'll get my Tam fix ;)

Liked this better than Spells. Still not as good as I remember, but also holding nostalgia to make up for it. Remembered the main events of this book from when I read it years ago, but some of it I had forgotten completely.
Well, talk about a cliffhanger. Good! But annoying of course. This is my favorite of the series so far, and i hope the last one (when it eventually comes out) will be just as good. It's silly and squealable, a guilty pleasure, but you need a few of those now and then. ;) Ahh, Tamani...*swoon*
This is the third book in the WINGS series. I loved that this book mainly focused on Laurel's relationships and how she has grown up and how things have changed. This novel definitely poses a "Team [insert name] and Team [insert name]" theme and it was nice to see more a romance aspect, rather than a plain magic/action adventure. It's wonderful (but very mean!!!) that Pike left it on such a glorious cliff-hanger.. but it just makes me even more excited for the fourth book in the series!
I found this book to be a little different than the other ones. Each time I pick up and read one of these books I fall for Tam all over again.
Ha, so that's what Tamani was doing! He was getting ready to go live in the human world. And what the heck is Klea doing here again? And Yuki...hmm...I was pretty sure that she was a faerie...but now the question is, what type? Well I already knew that, it was the freaking cliffhanger of the book! She's a Winter faerie!!! There's another Winter faerie o.o ok. That's going to make for some interesting plot for the last book.
Ok, I have my decision. Totally rooting for Tamani and Laurel. That guy has done so much for her, loves her, and she's got totally hard feelings for him too but is still clinging to David just because she loved him first. Yeah. I want her and Tamani to end up together.
So the action has been ramping up in this book, along with the plot. Like whoa. And that ending!!!!!! I need that last book RIGHT NOW!!!! Oh yay I do have it. *brb reading*
But again, yes, LOVE this series! Totally hooked! Two thumbs up already.
