Re-reading this to see my thoughts on it now.

There's a reason this series became a world-wide phenomenon. Suzanne Collins is a masterful writer. The world-building was excellent. Although this book is based on a dark topic, it was engaging and I had to keep reading, although I'm very familiar with the story. Also, as a conservative, I intellectually can appreciate the idea of an evil, unchecked government. 

Obviously this book has violence and death; the last death was disturbing to think of but wasn't overly descriptive. 

As a  Christian, I can't help but notice the lack of hope that could have been filled with Jesus. But as a secular novel, I am impressed that there really wasn't language and it wasn't filled with sexual stuff-- which is sadly rare today, even in YA.
