. I would say that this book feels a bit like a Bridget Jones movie, only less family friendly. There is a bunch of smut in this book, just be warned. But it is good written smut. This book is also very diverse, Chloe is a black woman with a chronic illness. This book focuses more on living with a chronic illness, and not so much on the potential problems a black woman would encounter.

Even though I don’t have fibromyalgia, I do have disabilities. And I felt seen in this book, and I felt represented. Even though I can’t relate to the chronic pain. And Red is a dream person. He adjusts activities so they are easier for Chloe. He thinks about her disability beforehand, and plans for a possible worse day. And he doesn’t make rude comments.

It was fine! Fun at times but I don’t think I love it as much as my friends all seem to. Loved the disability/chronic illness rep a lot, I think that was treated with so much care. I liked Chloe a lot and I liked Red well enough but I didn’t really connect with the book on any emotional level. I enjoyed the first half of the book much more than the second half. Once they went camping things felt very rushed and off and I REALLY disliked *everything* that ramped up toward the end. I get it, representation of trauma etc. I just think it was a bit out of place tonally. Hibbert hinted at these things with the characters but Red in particular felt extremely out of left field. It’s hard to describe because I understand how triggers work it just felt VERY off to me in the book. I also had no idea this book was so explicit, which isn’t something I mind in a book, but I would like to be mentally prepared to read it when I’m passing time at 7am while brushing my teeth. I did really appreciate Hibbert’s upfront-ness with the sex scenes, though! I really don’t enjoy sex that’s written with a lot of euphemisms and metaphors so her use of proper names and vocab and words that many authors tend to shy away from was refreshing. But like I always feel, sex scenes or not, a lot of sentences could do with about 30% fewer adjectives 😬

This cute realistic enemies-to-lovers was so good - I loved Chloe and Red’s adorable bickering and how friendship served as the basis of their relationship! I felt that the characters were really well written and the story was so great (maybe except for the conflict in act three). While I cannot speak for the diversity representation, I really liked that this romance helped give positive representation to marginalized groups. I loved seeing the normalization of therapy and I really liked how mental health and trauma was written in the book.

Overall, I really like that Talia Hibbert writes diverse romance novels, and I will definitely be reading more of the Brown sisters!!!

P.S. The book was definitely steamy (maybe a little too steamy for me) so this book should definitely be for adult readers!

I really loved the first 90% of this book, but the last 10% was a huge let down for me. Overall, I would highly recommend this book I had an absolute blast reading it.

Read for the pixie hollow readathon.
