The Younger Wife

This story it told from multiple perspectives: sisters Tully/Rachel and new wife Heather who is marrying their Dr dad Stephen. Their mom Pam has early dementia.

In the beginning of the novel we are at the wedding and someone is murdered. Throughout the book the reader if left guessing who got killed and who was the killer (similar to the guest list).

This author is always an easy/quick read.

Heathers dad was abusive and killed her mom. Tully is a kleptomaniac and Rachel is a baker who eats her feelings, doesn’t date bc she was raped at 16 and never told anyone. She starts to date Darcy her delivery man. Heather starts to be abused by Stephen but she starts to doubt this as he gaslights her into “dreaming” it and thinking she drinks more than she does. The sister finds almost 100k in a water bottle in the moms closet with Stephens first wife’s name on it. Fiona Arthur-who also attends the wedding and tells Rachel the dad was abusive to her.

This book did fall flat at many elements of the plot and still makes you wonder if Stephen was an abuser bc it keeps leaving doubts-gaslighting theme.

So glad I found this book for a long airport visit! This kept me intrigued for hours.

Was very engaged in the story but from the beginning the Dad seemed awful! All of these people were surprisingly forgiving of his behavior.

It started off slow but then picked up and sally as usually kept me guessing and second guessing what would happen and how it would end. I like that the ending was a bit more extended and developed than a typical suspense novel and it made the book more satisfying overall.
