This book was almost nothing like the movies. The same basic storyline of the game show and the storytelling to explain the answers was there and some plot lines could be traced but coming from a person who loved the movie, it was a bit disappointing. I also did not love the amount of sexual abuse that was in the story. I know this is probably a reality for kids in that situation but some of the extra storylines were too much.

I was really divided on my opinion of this book. The premise was excellent and served as the basis for the wonderful film Slumdog Millionaire. This is one of the rare occasions in which I prefer the film to the book. The film had an almost magical and surreal aspect to it that the book lacks. However, I feel if I read the book first, I would like the book more than I did (but still not more than the film). Some of the stories were intriguing and well told and I was surprised by the twist before the final question. However, the coincidences seemed convoluted to me (regarding the identities of certain people in the story). I would give this 3.5 stars if Goodreads allowed. I think it is worth the time it took to read it.

New favorite book!! Finally-a book with an ending just as good as the story. I loved every second of this and couldn't stop. This is one I'd read again and again-it's that good.

I enjoyed reading this and sometimes wondered why the writers of the movie adaptation chose to make some of the changes that they did. This was an interesting story on its own though quite different from the movie Slumdog Millionaire in many respects.
The book was a bit more difficult to follow as the story jumped back and forth in time and place quite often as it followed the order of the questions on the quiz show.
The book was engrossing and satisfying to read.
