This book had been on my TBR list since it was first published and I saw it in Borders, but the main drive to read it came after Slumdog Millionaire was released and everyone raved about (I try to read the book first - the movies tend to be dissapointing in comparrison).

I loved this book. The idea for the story, the blending of fact with fiction, the whole chapter with the Australian family, the characters that were involved at each chapter.

The thing I didn't like was how it hoped around so much, yes I know that's how it was structured and it probably did add to the story telling componenet, but I found myself getting lost at points in terms of "ok, so what had happened before? was this after...?".

I highly recommend it. Now I can watch the movie.

I really loved this story. It was so full of life - all the good and bad. I think the concept of this story is quite original (I’ve certainly never read anything like it before). The surprises kept on coming right up to the end. I also really enjoyed the way the story was read by Kerry Shale.

I am not sure if I want to go watch The film or not now. The book was brilliant and from the trailer I saw they have altered the plot quite a bit.

I wanted to love this, but unfortunately I just didn't. Though a fairly quick read, it was kind of boring. From what I've seen and read, the movie is much better than the book so I'm hoping to watch that soon. For me, it all boils down to the fact that I was pretty bored while reading this. I read it quickly, but I wasn't interested at all. I just kept reading to get to the end and have it be over, which is not how you want to feel while reading a book.

Maybe I'll like the movie more, we'll see.

I first spotted this book at Manchester airport. I hadn't heard of the book nor the author, but was intrigued by the story on the back cover of the book.

Ram Mohammed Thomas, a penniless, uneducated, 18 year old waiter from the Indian slums, is the first person to win a billion rupees on the new TV game show "Who Wants to Win a Billion". The show's producers, stunned by the success of the teenager, and faced with paying out a huge (and unexpected) prize, get the youngster arrested on suspicion of cheating. They claim there is no way that Ram could have known the answers to the 12 questions leading to the billion rupee prize.

The story is told in 12 chapters (plus a prologue and epilogue) - one for each of the quiz show questions - detailing Ram's life and how he came to know the answers to the twelve questions asked of him during the show.

This book is absolutely fantastic! I really got caught up with Ram's story, and although it started to feel a bit "samey" by the 9th or 10th chapter, it was engrossing all the same. My only criticism of the book was that it was difficult to put all the stories into chronological order, so by the end I felt a little muddled by it all.

Nonetheless it was an engrossing read and one I would highly recommend. In fact, for the first time in ages, I actually felt disappointed when I finished the book. I'll definitely be looking out for more works by this author.

The story was interesting and easy to follow, but the prose felt clunky at times and made it difficult to stay interested.

Having enjoyed the film slumdog millionaire, I was curious to see what the book it was based on was like. I did enjoy this novel, but for once I can't believe I enjoyed the film more than the book!

Loved this book!

So, I have not watch Slumdog Millionaire so the order would be reading the book first and then I'll watch the movie to compare.

I got this book, thanks to Ka Essy yg lagi bebersih koleksi bukunya.
If not so, mungkin juga aku belum bakal kepengin untuk akhirnya nonton Slumdog Millionaire sampai di sela memulai buku ini, I also looking more about Slumdog Millionaire movie -to know what to expect, and turned out I'm expecting an Oscar worth-movie.

Menutup buku ini, aku memberikan rating 3.5 bintang.
Despite being quite a page-turner book, because this book was so rich of life lessons and drama, but at the same time this book is too much (of how all that story manifested in one life of Ram Mohammad Thomas in a span of 18 years -I know it's possible but it's so unlikely).
And I happen to read the book with the cover that I think doesn't do it justice -I'm a bit dissapointed by this cover (sorry).
