Good, but fairly standard as far as murder mysteries go.
The characters are well formed, Hugh and Lady W are endearing and likable. I'm afraid the ending is predictable and a little slow in the explanation stage. But a cosy read all the same. I loved the part explaining Hughs friendship with Lady W in the reading room over hot drinks and books. That was a truly lovely image.
The writing is good but as with Murder at the Theatre Royale, it comes across as unnecessarily complex and 'try-hard' at times. There was also a ridiculous amount of clichéd sayings back to back. I am aware this helped with characterisation, but it got very annoying. But I do love the humour in the book, and when done modestly Ada is quite the wordsmith.

May give this another go on Christmas week, but rather vanilla for my taste.

bardzo dobre zakończenie do głównie ciągnącej się powieści. niektóre wątki były naprawdę fajnie napisane, ale głównie nudnawo.

charming, witty and cosy christmas mystery.
i love anything set in a country house, and the vibrant characters. the mystery was intriguing and engaging and i really enjoyed how the author described each scene for the reader, almost like we were peering through the doorways or peepholes aha!
