The premise sounded interesting: a cozy, Christmas mystery set in England in the 1930s. I thought it would be right up my alley but unfortunately not.

We meet a lot of characters right away, and I do mean a lot of characters. I was able to keep the Westbury family straight—parents and their adult children—and  family friend Hugh, but beyond that everyone just blended together as “other guests”.

Mr. Campbell-Scott’s name was misspoken as Mr. Campbell-Knott by Constable Jones. The error wasn’t commented on by the other 2 characters involved in the conversation so I don’t know if this was because Constable Jones is a useless buffoon, or if it was just something missed in editing.

Hugh is patronizing and misogynistic towards all women not excluding Lydia; his best friend. Lydia stands up for herself but eventually caves because of course a man knows best.

I made it to page 100 and gave up. DNF.
