For being a prequel, it feels very fan-fictiony in the way we only meet and interact with characters that are plot relevant later on in the series. There is also the inherent issue of the characters’ thoughts and feelings b pointless since they get their memories wiped at the end.
I was hoping we’d get to see more of how the maze was built given that was one of the main selling points for the book. I was hoping too to get to learn more about Janson or Aris and Rachel, too, but alas. The fact that Thomas gets to see and laugh at the true birth names of all his friends and we don’t knocks this book down an entire star.

Well, well, well. Story-wise I liked this more than Kill Order. But I was more frustrated in this story than in Kill Order. A few things I didn't like: 1) Thomas, you are so smart yet you don't connect the dots of things and you do stupid things. 2) I still don't know why the kids need to go through the Maze nor do I know why they need to be treated so unethically. Overall, the general story was "eh" but I did enjoy turning off my brain and going with the flow. This was a good "turn your brain off and don't think too much" kind of book. Very fun to read through!

definitely a good 4.5!! this was a much needed prequel which i thought made the whole series a bit more upsetting and disturbing (especially with the knowledge of how it all plays out). a few inconsistencies w the series but oh well. was absolutely GAGGED by the epilogue tbh

I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would. I loved the details in Newt and Minho’s backstory’s. Plus the connection to The Kill Order actually had my jaw on the floor. This book was all around super fun, emotional, and I loved all of the connections to the original Maze Runner story.

My book review of The Fever Code by James Dashner. 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

So I struggled to figure out a rating for this book. It started so slowly and introduced a brand new set of characters that I had no idea about. It was an interesting beginning that became interesting enough as it is.

“One must know the problem better than the solution, or the solution becomes the problem.”

The concept is unique, and I really enjoyed it, AFTER the halfway point. It took me forever to get halfway through, that’s for sure.
