Beautifully written. Everything was stellar, and I wanted to fall in love with it, yet I just did not connect deeply with the characters (which is highly unusual for me).

Once more I cried, not as terribly as before, but I did. That's the problem with this one though is you know it will happen and the signs are there. It's how it all fell into place that's the real kick.

****careful. A few ending spoilers****

Oh my where to start...?
Ive had friends reading this book for so long and it never interested me. I learned it is a book about cancer and I immediately thought it was some boring philosophical book with zero romance. (I'm a romance sucker.) Because I never actually read the pitch.

It's actually thanks to Breeze of Life by Kristy Dallas that I looked twice at this book. I recently read Breeze of Life, loved it and was reminded by this book because the protagonist there has cancer as well, and is on a limited life span. So I looked it up, read the summery and was immediately blown away. The only thing that could have hooked me more was the pitch--too short, too little info.

Well today I spent the day in bed and read every last word.
The romance was a little quick and happened fast, but it was beautiful and so sweet. Another thing that could have been better is for the author not to rush through it so much. The plot seemed rushed at times and I wish I had more of a chance to be with the characters. (Or maybe not because then I would have cried more.)

But it was overall very good. I'm giving it five stars for all the emotions it made me have.

The ending blew me away a bit. Well, not the ending, but when she learns he is dying :( :( Throughout the novel I kept feeling like she'd die, but that was a saddening surprise.

The ending itself was iffy for me. In plot and sentimental reasons, it was beautiful. Asking Peter to write to her for him..awwww.
But I found it didn't end the book up enough. I'm left with a pound of questions. Does she die?? Or better yet, when does she? What's the rest of Isaac's life like?
And you know what...? Even as I write this I just understood the ending. John Green made it so TFiOS ends just like Peter's book; no definite ending.clever but upsetting.

I heard there is a movie coming out so I watched the trailer. Despite knowing that I'll bawl like crazy, I want to see it. Judging from the trailer this movie will be bang-on to the book. Every scene and piece of dialogue was exactly like the book ^__^

And to sum it up, do you have any idea how difficult it is to sob at that book while already having a cold??? I couldn't breathe!!!

So, okay, this book. John Green in general. Where to start? I put off reading this book when it first came out, even though I knew about it before it was even published because of the huge Nerdfighter presence on Tumblr. In fact, I put it off until this February when I was sick and didn't want to do any work and was already prepared to cry. I cry pretty easily, and I had heard that this book was LIFE RUINING and would CHANGE EVERYTHING I EVER KNEW FOREVER. Several of my friends really love it, probably the way that I love Sandman and To Kill a Mockingbird and Litany In Which Certain Things Are Crossed Out, and I was willing to give it a try. But I was also kind of skeptical, since I had read Looking for Alaska and Pretty Much Not Liked It. It seemed to be trying too hard for some universal truth, which I think is a criticism that a lot of people have with John Green in general. BUT I went ahead and read TFIOS.

And you know what? I actually liked it a lot, but not for the reasons that everyone else seems to. It certainly had a life ruining aspect to it, and I certainly did cry, but what made me really really upset was actually the parent-child relationships in the book. You know that the romance aspect is doomed from the start, so I was prepared for something bad to happen, but what you don't know is how RIGHT John Green gets how parents and kids interact. I think sometimes his teenagers sound too smart to be actual teenagers, but the family dynamics are SPOT FUCKING ON. So when stuff happened with the kids and their parents, I sobbed. And the book is very very well-written. Very compelling and smartly structured.

I think that the "universal truth" problem that John Green had in Looking for Alaska is still present here, but it's sort of tamed actually. I still think that I like John Green better as an educator, creator, and internet human being rather than a YA author, but he's certainly on the upswing in terms of talent and growth. If this book had come out when I was in middle school or high school, I know that it would've been my entire world, and I can really appreciate that because it means it's a mark of good work. There were just a few too many times when I had to step back and say, "Well, wait a minute," for it to be perfect. But it's certainly EXCELLENT.

I would recommend this book to most, but with a grain of salt: it's gotten so hyped now that perhaps it's best to try and divorce it from the hype, and certainly divorce it from the movie. Take it for what it is--an excellently told story of two young people fighting cancer--and you'll get the most out of it.

I first read The Fault in Our Stars before I knew there was a hype about it, and I completely loved it. I thought the writing was easy going and the characters were relatable, funny and honest about what they were going through. And although John Green romanticised Cancer - which I disagree with completely - I still thought it was a well done book.

And then I discovered Booktube and its hype......

I reread the book a little over a year later, this time I knew there was a hype surrounding not only the book but John Green as well, and I have to be honest.....I didn't like it. Like I mentioned above, I only found John's writing to be easy going; simple really and so I never understood why everyone was licking his arsehole saying he was the "BEST WRITER EVER" because he's not and he never will be. The Fault in Our Stars is merely mediocre at it's best and the only good things about the book are Hazel and Augustus, if John had written two completely different characters then I can bet you a dollar that people would not have had the same reaction....

First of all, this is my first book I have read after not reading for two years as I could not visit my favorite library due to the pandemic and me being depressed to even go out other than scroll my phone 24/7. One of my middle school teachers gifted me this book when we met since for like ever and I want to thank her so much.

The fault in our stars is an amazing book, as in the book its a bursts of humor and tragedy, I loved this book so much, the characters Hazel, Augustus and Isaac, each chapters, tbh it was a heartwarming and clenching point of view to know how people with cancer in this book live as for I have well lived ungratefully, this might sound weird but this book gave me the motivation I longed for the past few months, after shutting myself scared to go out and going to school because of social anxiety, skipping to eat, vomiting a lot, fainting, few therapy sessions which kind of helped a bit and a lot moms support, I say thank you to this book for finding me. shout out to John Green for writing this book ^0^. Definitely a must read.

ps. I know I'm supposed to leave a review of this book but this like this is my first time using Goodreads also I want to leave somewhere how I felt when I read the book soo bear with me xd
