For me it was a really slow book and I'm normally one for fast pases and I was at page 120 and there was only one death going on and no leads
Burned through this one fast. It was good but a bit like a less well written version of ‘a good girls guide to murder’. Murder in high school. Secret investigation. Threats etc. So fun to read but not sure if it will be memorable.

This was a really fun read that was a nice break from some of the heavier adult books I typically read. It gets 5 stars because I lent it to one of my students and received an email from her saying she loved it and needed to talk about it. Any book that gets a teenager excited about reading is amazing imo.

We improve our odds by slightly decreasing the fortunes of others.
The Ivies are a group of five girls all interested in going to any Ivy League school (each to a different one to they aren’t competing with each other). They sabotage other students in order to secure their spots at their desired school. The Queen Bee of the group, Avery Montfort, is aiming for Harvard. Our main character, Olivia Winters was supposed to be applying to UPenn but ended up secretly applying to Harvard. Olivia is accepted and Avery is rejected. Another member of the Ivies, Emma, also secretly applied to Harvard and got in and Avery finds out. The next morning Emma is found dead.
I love boarding school murder mystery books and The Ivies lived up to all my expectations. I had a lot of theories and I actually did suspect the actual murderer for five seconds before moving on. I loved learning about all the Ivies, especially the secret life of Emma that Olivia had no idea about even though they were roommates. What I love the most is that it doesn’t end with a complete happily ever after, which makes everything so realistic (also the mentions of Covid-19 and quarantine). Also I really liked that even though there was a hint of romance, it wasn’t even one of the top 5 plot lines of the story.
What I didn’t enjoy is the same old scholarship kid that doesn’t fit in trope. Olivia was a little annoying about this and I loved it when the other girls called her out on it.
I had a great time reading this and I’d definitely recommend it to all my murder mystery obsessed friends.

Lots of logical things that just wouldn’t happen that bugged me enough to not really like it. Also ended pretty lame.
