I really wanted to enjoy this one more than I did. It started off really well. I wasn't too lost even though I haven't read book one. However, around halfway through, I started to lose interest. The story felt like it was dragging, and I wasn't invested in the characters. It ended up being a struggle to even finish it. I have seen a few reviews that state book one was much better, so I may give that book a try in the future!

I've said it before and I'll say it again- Veronica Mcreedy is an absolute triumph of a character! I very much enjoyed her second penguin adventure; it was as beautiful and heartbreaking as the first. I don't often cry at books but I found the scenes where Veronica remineces about her Enzo very emotional indeed.
I think if Patrick were a person, then I wouldn't like him very much. But this only speaks to the brilliance of Prior's characters for they are real, flawed and diverse.
This book has left me with two lasting thoughts: I should try Darjeeling tea. And I definitely need to give more thought to the impact I have on the planet.
P.s I am glad to see that Granny V still has an excellent memory
