I did not enjoy this book as much as the first.  I found Patrick to be particularly annoying in this one.  But overall, it was a good story and I did cry at a particular incident towards the end of the book.

2.5/5 stars. This is a case of familiarity breeding contempt. I didn’t finish it. I know I continued for longer than I should have (less than 100 pages to the end) because the writing quality was good, and I quite enjoyed the first book in this series, but this one failed me. What I found endearing in the original book was simply irritating in this one. Complex characters aren’t necessarily immature and emotionally stunted ones, and the “green” messaging would benefit from more subtlety.

I wasn't as fond of this second installment in the Veronica McCreedy series. It felt too forced. Yes, it had the same characters as the first novel, but I just didn't feel invested in any of them. Terry's health plot took a different turn than I had anticipated. I did appreciate the plastic undercurrent, and I feel I will think twice about the packaging I buy.

I found the first book so heartwarming, and this one just didn't have that charm.
