Overall, I think this collection did a decent job of showing how much Superman was missed. Batman talking about the Kryptonite ring and all the heroes putting on the armbands were both particularly gut-wrenching. I also thought it did a credible job of introducing Luthor (for someone who hasn't read a lot of the previous comics). It ended on a cliffhanger so I'm curious to see where this goes.

The art was well done. The emotional impact of Superman dying and his family dealing with the loss or their son (or in the case of Lois, love) was illustrated in an engaging way.
The Jonathan Kent rescuing Clark's soul, underworlders, and the minor superheroes were the weakest parts of this story in my opinion. I did like the look into the sorrow of the more famous heroes though wonder where they were in the battle against Doomsday.
I good, though not great, bridge to the Reign of the Supermen arc.

There were definitely parts that I enjoyed; the Luthor/Supergirl plotline, the Thorn, the funeral with all the main heroes involved, the reaction towards Superman's death, Lois and Ma and Pa Kent. But most of the time I felt like I was slogging through this comic. I hated everything having to do with Gangbuster or any of the cops, the Underworlders would be a lot more interesting if Superman were there, and there were so many parts where it felt like the story was coming to an end and I thought "what else could even take up 300 pages?"

This was utter garbage. If anybody actually has ANY of these single issues still, I’m sorry you wasted your old $2.50. If you like this Vol, I mean I guess my guy. Imma say one last thing to end this...there is a character in here named the “GANGBUSTER.” nuff said.

A muddled collocation of comics from aFter the big event. It’s unfocused but there are some great moments of melodrama in there.

The first few parts of the funeral was fine. Then they had to make the funeral arc to long and pointless. Superman coming back is dumb from a story point of view but I know they had to make money so they brought him back.

When your gut tells you to dnf a book, listen to it. This was the most pointless collection of issues I have read to date.
