Absolutely floored by this incredible memoir. Chanel Miller is a brilliant writer and an inspiring, intelligent, and profoundly talented person and I’m so glad she is able to use the voice that was taken from her to share her story. I really appreciated how deliberate she was in including her own achievements and skills, the wholeness of her personhood that was ignored in favor of swimming times and ‘promising futures’. I really can’t say enough about how beautiful this memoir was— Chanel Miller you are amazing <3

This is such an emotional read. I can't count the number of times I cried through this book. But the heaviness of the subject in no way takes away from the beauty of her writing. She's going to be amazing, I can't wait to read her next book, whatever that may be.

The book focuses on the trauma she went through after her attack. The shame, the guilt, the fear, the why me, the struggle to make herself heard and believed. It paints a solid picture of the victim blaming culture in the world today. I've always felt like I was weak and have been kicking myself for years for not seeking justice against my own attackers. But after reading this, I'm realizing that I most likely saved myself years of additional trauma. Thank you Chanel.

I strongly feel everyone should read this book. The only way to make a change in this victim blaming culture is to understand what a victim goes through. And this book will make you not just understand, but feel what she went through.
