I don't even know where to begin with this book. I was so scared it would be didactic, or overly depressing (which it had every right to be) but I honestly only found it captivating, painfully honest and raw, and surprisingly hopeful. It really does make you think in the most natural way possible, and Miller is a genius for addressing her situation in the way she did.

I was in tears, greatly disappointed, fuming with anger, I was inspired, felt empowered and hopeful when reading this memoir.

In this honest and brave memoir, Chanel goes through the process of first coming to terms with what has happened to her, being blamed for it and being faced with anger for "ruining a young man's bright future", fighting back and not accepting the role the media is trying to put on her as Brock Turner's victim, but showing she is a survivor to be reckoned with, that she is more than what has happened and what was done to her.

Chanel's story is in some ways unique, but in the most horrible way also way to familiar to a lot of women. What the terms sexual assault and rape cover, have changed a lot in just the last few years, and more and more women are realising, that behaviour we've experienced from men, that we've excused or blamed on ourselves, were not okay, not our fault but in fact assaults.

I read this as a buddy read and I'm so happy that I did. We had planned to read it slowly, because we knew it wasn't an easy topic to read about, but we just devoured this must-read book in a couple of days.
