I really enjoyed this book. Should reread several of these chapters before listening to news!!
Nice selection of topics and excellent reinforcement on paying attention to both the numbers AND units throughout an argument.

If you’re an intelligent, literate, and otherwise highly bright person who has been convinced that you hate math and won’t try to do it, READ THIS BOOK. If you think you’re none of those things, still read it. I had fallen in love by “The Exponential Embryo” in chapter one and eagerly took it all in, making excited connection after connection. I was reminded frequently while reading this of my late grandfather, a brilliant mathematician whose work with the first “modern” computers and the Apollo space missions has left such an academic shadow I’ve felt eclipsed in. His absolute love of math and astounding understanding of intricate concepts (that are *quite literally* rocket science) has been deeply impressed in me from the short time our lives coincided.
If you’re anything like me, this will be a book you won’t be able to put down. Not necessarily due to any "novelty" of its contents but to a more sociological telling of its concepts. Math, equations, charts, formulas, history, law, biology, technology, people, and much more. A big picture of THE bigger picture, and the reference points to put the two together.
Only major complaint has to be d!ckriding the metric system. No one in the US actually uses stones or rods or poppyseeds or barleycorn or cubits. Seriously? Totally bull, the metric system can’t measure my freedom

I think for what it’s trying to do, it does a really good job! A good book to give to a young adult who wonders why they have to learn math :)
**I gave it 5 stars in that I think it does what it promises, but tbh, unlike some of my other 5 star rating where I felt revolutionarily changed, you don’t have to read this book unless you really want to lol
