This book frustrates me because the foundation for a really great story is there. The author has a clear vision for an interesting world of Mystics run by witches, werewolves, and vampires. However, this is a fantasy story the does a lot of “telling” often in really stereotypical forms like visions, memories, or journal pages. There is less “showing” which really hampers the pace of the book. The dialogue often comes across really unnatural and monologue-like a points. Character wise, there are definitely some to root for including two of the major love interests but with a very unfulfilling cliffhanger at the end, I doubt I’ll be back for more.

ngl, i picked this up after only seeing one tiktok by the author and i don't regret it. i had a good time with this. i do think there was SO much going on in the plot that the romance took a back burner and was a little too slow burn for me. there was also so much that happened at the end that my head was overloaded with too much info. BUT i did like our characters a bunch, especially lucia and gabrielle. i am patiently awaiting the next book in the series because that cliffhanger HURT MY SOUL!

⚠️: child abuse, gun violence, panic attacks/disorders, toxic relationship, violence, death, suicide attempt
