What a page turner of a book. A little predictable but it will also make you guess what will happen.

This was an interesting read. It never really hooked me though, and it felt like it dragged on in parts (even though it wasn’t a particularly long book). I did like the back and forth perspective storytelling.

Really enjoyed this but was definitely thrown by how much more happened than I thought would. I had expected a full story about a robbery but there was more substance than that.

After reading Brian O’Sullivan’s first novel, The Puppeteer, I was an instant fan and immediately purchased his second novel, The Patsy. But then I learned he had just released a third novel, The Bartender, so I decided to jump ahead to that one. I was not disappointed.

This fast-moving thriller combines current-day events as it hearkens back to classic sleuths such as Bud Corliss and Nancy Drew, making it a worthy detective novel. There are so many well-designed plot twists that I fear even writing a brief synopsis here would give something away. Suffice it to say that the female protagonist gets duped by villains of both sexes, all of whom come to regret having pissed her off.

As an accountant, I’m especially appreciative of O’Sullivan’s character development. Although I don’t know him personally, I like to imagine he has a certain fastidious nature about him inherent to his former career as a World Series of Poker champion. Poker players are disciplined and keenly perceptive, while holding off as long as possible before showing their hand. O'Sullivan's novels are methodical, keeping the reader guessing until springing the element of surprise even the best poker face couldn’t conceal.

And now, back to reading The Patsy!
