Edge of seat... thoroughly enjoyed this book! Warning: don't read the last 50 pages before trying to sleep.

4.5/5 stars. Wow. This book was a rollercoaster. It started off so good, I was immediately hooked on the story. Then about halfway through, it became harder to read and very slow. However, that didn’t last for long - it picked up and I was visibly shocked multiple times while reading this novel. Essentially, it’s like following a Netflix documentary but in a book. I really liked this book, the concept of how a murder was committed, but the witness was unreliable (as most are), but she was so certain of what she saw. The way the story unravels is wild. It ended with all questions being resolved (most questions continued until the last page) and answered. I really liked this.

How It Happened  by Michael Koryta is a tense, twist filled story about an FBI agent, Rob Barrett, who is trying to solve a years old double murder. Kimmy Crepeaux is in jail and is a known heroin addict who confesses her involvement in the murder of Ian Kelly and Jackie Pelletier. Barrett risks his job trying to prove that Kimmy's story is true, but the bodies keep piling up.

This was an easy read that moved quickly. This story reads like a meaty James Patterson story.

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. While I was reading I was optimistic that the ending of the book was going to bump the book up to 4 stars but instead it knocked it down to 2. The writing is good and the plot is interesting enough. However, the ending just doesn't hold up as a satisfying conclusion. I also felt like the characters were lacking in development, I couldn't say I cared much for or about any of them.

I liked 90% of this but I think it grew unfocused and lost its edge towards the very end.

This reminded me very much of The Dry so if you liked that, I think you will like this too.

Looks like I'm really in the minority here, but I didn't really enjoy this. It seemed to really drag for me.
