2.0

After his mom dies of cancer Walter Davis is homeless and living in his car. He just graduated from community college with a degree in business but he is still jobless. He is handsome and ambitious and he scores a date with the pretty Yolanda at the post office where he picks up his mail and uses the computers. After a very successful date, Walter’s car is towed and his situation goes from bad to worse when he loses his cash and can’t get his car back. He is too embarrassed to tell his troubles to Yolanda and stands her up for their second date. Since he is smart and ambitious, he is not down for long and the book has a happy ending. Even though it is filled with life lessons about the causes of homelessness, strength, and ingenuity, it is not heavy handed. This “rapid read” is meant for reluctant readers but might only appeal to girls because there is little action. Positive reviews Booklist and SLJ.
