This is by far the best book of the series so far. Mostly because it was focusing on the other characters a lot more; we even got to see some of the story from Joselyn's perspective, finally. I loved the bits of her background. Getting more from Simon, Isabelle and Alec was pretty refreshing, too, as well as more insight into Sebastian. I really could've done without Clary and Jace, but I'll get more into that later.

Despite how much more I enjoyed this book from all the others in the Mortal Instrument series so far, there were still some problems. And yeah, most of those problems stemmed from Clary and Jace and the weird triangle with Sebastian. Seriously, WHY THE HELL DOES THIS AUTHOR KEEP PUSHING INCEST?! I'm glad that in this case, she was purposefully making it uncomfortable, but still. Why is this a thing with her? Also, the thing with Clary and the wonder twins reminded me a lot of when Rose was with Strigoi!Dimitri in Vampire Academy. Not sure which book came out first, but the similarities were certainly there. This situation made me uncomfortable in a similar way as that one, and having one half of your romantic lead almost being date-raped by the other... You are really making it way too easy for me to not root for these two.

Also, can we please stop with the relationship drama? It's enough to make me scream. I feel like I say this a lot, but so many issues could've been handled better if the couple just talked to each other. Funny thing is, other characters are even giving out this advice, but no one seems willing to follow it. I don't blame Magnus for being pissed at Alec, but again, TALK TO EACH OTHER. I absolutely loved Simon and Isabelle's relationship, though. Though they still have the same communication problems as every other couple in this series, it didn't annoy me with them because they were both so enjoyable, as individuals and as a pair.

My biggest grievance with this novel is the fate of Camille. Like... really? A centuries-old vampire, who has been through and seen so much and has gotten out of so many predicaments, is taken out by this punk-ass newbie vampire who's barely a month old? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I really want to believe this is a fake-out, that Camille decided to leave these morons to their war and go back to London. Maybe Camille decided she was too old for this shit, who knows, or purposefully left a power vacuum hoping Maureen and Raphael will destroy each other. I don't know. Sure is better than having this little girl take her out.

That and some other stupidity aside, I was enjoying this book a lot. I know it was thanks in large part to the supporting cast. I'm spoiled on some things that happen at the end, but I'm still looking forward to reading it.

THIS ISN'T A REVIEW! SPOILERS AHEAD! DON'T TELL ME I DIDN'T WARN YOU!!!!

Okay, so... Cassandra Clare expects me to wait until March 2014 to read the next book? Ha! She obviously underestimates my abilities of breaking into homes and hacking computers. So.... I'm extremely glad that she didn't leave the book with a huge jaw opening heart stopping Cliffhanger, because I don't know what I would've done if she did that. I HATE that Magnus and Alec broke up, but hopefully they'll get together on the last book. I really hope that Camille Belcourt really is dead, because if she isn't... I'm going to have to get inside the book and kill her myself. Clary annoyed me a bit with her extremely BLIND love/obsession for Jace. She f*ckd some things up with her stuborness and impulsiveness, but I love female heroines, so I'll ignore this for a while... Simon! He's always a great voice in the book and this time I felt like he really evolved in this book, can't wait to see his relationship with Izzy <3 Jordan and Maia... MEH. That's how I reacted everytime I read something with them in it. I don't feel like their story was all that good.. but oh well. I have a small little tiny corner of my heart separated for Sebastian... just because maybe he would be a better person if he was treated better by Valentine. Sebastian is a superb villain, even better than Valentine himself. Sebastian could be ruthless, unhumane and a selfish bastard, but he was very amusing. I think I'll be suffering from book Hangover for a while... If I could give this 10 stars, I would.

the back end of the series is a bit more of a slog than the first 3. they will do anything to create clary and jace angst I swear

So much happened, and I hate that I feel for Sebastian/Jonathan… I knew it was fake but I still felt really sorry for him in this book.

So much action in this book, as well as personal sub plot storylines for the characters. Simon and his mark being removed. Magnus breaking up with Alec. Clary ‘killing’ Jace kind of twice, but rejecting his offer to go to the clave then stabbing him. Izzy and Simon. Jordan and Mia.

Maureen is really annoying me. Especially now Camille is dead because of her, I liked Camille. I’m very proud Alec decided against taking Magnus’ immortality, the first time I disliked Alec.

I’m nervous for the last book. Especially now that I have small sympathy for Sebastian/Jonathan.

This was genuinely a fun time. I liked the teen drama-ness, I liked how episodic it felt & I did enjoy the time in the house … (until Sebastian tried to ||rape|| his sister). I don’t like the plot they gave Magnus & Alec, it’s so stupid & honestly feels a little OOC for Alec. I also love Simon & Izzy, him telling her Star Wars as a bedtime story—supposed to be the antithesis of Jace, I suppose.

this is definitely one of the weaker books of the series. nonetheless, still a very good book. the only problem i had with it was how slow it was, but it made for an epic ending, so i’d say it was worth it.

we start of immediately after city of fallen angels, and jace and sebastian are both missing. great. clary is blaming herself and so sad but whatever. clary just gets under my nerves sometimes. so we know that jace and sebastian are bound by a rune, so while the clave are searching for them, if they find sebastian they don’t care if jace dies too. but i care. i adore jace and clary so much and their relationship. jace and sebastian show up at the institute, and clary watches from afar. i was definitely confused at this point, wondering why jace was getting along so so well with sebastian. and then jace shows up in clary’s bed. definitely weird. and then luke is stabbed and jace does nothing about it?? something is seriously wrong with jace.

WHY WOULD YOU TRUST THE SEELIE QUEEN. have we not learned over several books that she is not to be trusted? since the fair folk cannot lie, they think she cannot possibly maneuver around this situation. so clary gets the rings for the seelie queen and keeps them for herself. and uses them when she goes with sebastian and jace. i was actually shocked to see that the rings worked with simon. i thought they wouldn’t. but of course the ring goes missing. and it was pretty obvious that sebastian took it. ok the fight between sebastian and clary where he tries to rape her??? really gross. like disgusting.

i felt so bad for simon when his mom banished him from the house. but i loved the reunion between simon and his sister. i thought it was so cute. i love love love isabelle and simon together. i mean, they’re so cute together. meanwhile, simon and everyone else summon raziel. i was not sure this was the best idea. what angel would want to be summoned? i thought he was going to kill simon. but, he takes the mark of cain. which i’m pretty content with since it seemed to be causing problems. and gives him glorious. containing the heavenly fire.

yeah i did not enjoy evil jace. he was just like jace, but a little bit off. he still has those same feelings for clary, but goes along with sebastian’s plans. i loved when jace broke the possession for a little bit and they finally got an intimate moment. but alas, we’ll have to wait for another book for the long awaited sex scene. ok so jace wanted to turn himself in and clary tells sebastian he isn’t possessed anymore. clary why. i mean it is for the sake of the book, but she is so selfish. but in the end it works out.

when clary stabbed jace with glorious, i saw it coming. i mean, they couldn’t kill sebastian yet; there’s still one more book in the series. the whole “dark shadowhunter” thing was pretty genius and i applaud sebastian. but i also hate him. jace is filled with heavenly fire and burns almost everything. so clary and jace are yet to have their happy ending. they can barely kiss without causing a fire. anyway this was a good setup for city of heavenly fire.

ALEC WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? why would you ever trust camille. why would you ever go behind magnus’ back to take his immortality away from him? why would you ever consider that. when magnus broke up with alec i was shocked. but i think it teacher alec a good lesson. and it’s pretty obvious that they’ll get back together so i’m not too mad. i was extremely shocked however when maureen said she killed camille. it was so abrupt and kinda unbelievable. but i mean, i guess she’s the leader of the vampire clan now. and she’s like thirteen.

overall i can understand why this book isn’t liked all that much. but i personally really enjoyed it. in some ways it did seem like a filler book, but even if it was it was a good one. i really enjoyed it and it sets up the big final battle for city of heavenly fire.
