City of Glass remains my favorite but this one was up there. While I still loved it like I love all the TMI books, it didn't live up to the admiration I have for City of Glass. My emotions were up and down in this; I didn't know who to trust or what was going to come of all this. It kept me on my toes! I can say that I've come out of this hopeful but emotionally drained. That being said though, I plan on starting City of Heavenly Fire immediately because... duh!

3.5 stars. I feel like I've read this book already.

This book was good but it just couldn’t hook me! i took months to read this bc i was so bored😭 still love the book verse i just think after 5 books i need something more action packed.

Contains spoilers!

I got the Finnish copy a year or two ago from my sister's ex- boyfriend. He bought it from thrift shop but then he didn't want to read it after all (maybe because he hadn't read four first books) and were like "do you want this?" of course I gladly took it. But I wanted to read the book in it 's original language, so I decided to listen to the audiobook instead this time.

Alec knew that if Clary was the one missing, Jace would burn the whole world down until he could dig her out of the ashes. Jace would never hurt Clary and Clary loves Jace Lightwood, not who current Jace was. It still was sometimes hard to remember that this Jace wasn't her Jace. Jace wasn't himself but he still loved Clary and didn't want to keep her in the dark. He wanted nothing but her and I love how she's the only girl whose opinion he has ever cared about.

Clary and Jace were alike. They're both reckless. They didn't think before they acted. Part of Jace just wanted to protect her but he fell for her because of her braveness and knew that they're meant to protect each other but they couldn't protect each other from everything. They needed to respect each other's decisions because they will be together for a long time. They could only protect each other if they were together. If they faced things together. Trusted each other. If Jace kissed Clary all day every day-- it wouldn't be enough. It's like there's always been part of Jace's soul missing and it's inside of Clary.

I adore Alec but he was so dumb in this book. Sure, he he felt like part of him was missing because Jace wasn't himself but it was just so stupid to keep going to Camille. I felt for him because Magnus was keeping a lot of secrets but why tempt fate when he was dating someone who was funny, kind and all those great things. I felt for him for having to keep feeling insecure about Magnus' past while Magnus was his first relationship but I just couldn't understand him. Alec even himself knew that he was making a mistake.

I haven't been big fan of Izzy but I enjoyed her in this book. We got to see more of her vulnerable part and she's been there for Clary. She was very understanding about Simon's need to be there for Clary. Izzy is a little confused about her relationship with Simon but I'm glad she finally asked Simon to come to her and she never asks anything from anyone. I loved it when they had the whole "You came" "Of course I did." trope. It almost made me melt. Izzy missed Simon when he wasn't around but Simon thought that she didn't need him because she was so strong. Izzy believed in Simon but he thought that he's nothing and she's perfect. She wanted to be with her but it scared her. These two just need to communicate more!

I don't think Alec and Clary's friendship is shown enough in this series, so I was glad that they understood each other better than anyone else. I also liked Izzy and Jordan's growing friendship. I'm glad he gave her some insights about what was going on in Simon's head and reminding Izzy that Clary might have lost Jace but she lost her brother and needed comforting too.

I totally forgot Jace's dislike for ducks. I guess I just always combine ducks with certain The Infernal Devices character. It made me so happy that Jace was reading a book to Clary with Will's dedication text. I do not like Stephen from what we've heard about him. He wasn't a good man and I can't believe he probably gave Will's book to Valentine of all people.

Sebastian concluded that he wasn't interested in keeping the name his parents gave him. Both of them betrayed him, and he would prefer as little association with his mother as possible. It was Sebastian's fault that Jace wasn't himself but I still liked his friendship with fake! Jace. I think that friendship was the reason why I can't hate Sebastian. He's evil and all but he could also be funny and in his twisted way he cared about Jace and loved Clary. He just wanted his little sister, even if it was in a way no brother should think about their sister. He wanted Clary to give him a chance and in his mind he and Clary belonged together.

I really can't stand Clary's mom, Jocelyn. I know she just wants to protect her daughter but just the mention of her annoys me. She thought that Clary has always loved Jace too much and that her daughter should just let him go. The more she tried to keep Clary safe, the more she wrecked Clary's life but Jovelyn was convinced that the more Clary got involved with Jace, the more she wrecked her own life. Jocelyn did everything she did when she was young to try and hold on to Valentine and now wanted Clary to realize that she needed to understand that her and Jace aren't meant to be just like she wasn't meant to be with Valentine. I felt like she just kept putting her own issues with her ex husband to Jace and never even gave Jace a chance.

I'm glad both Magnus and Izzy didn't let Jocelyn just do whatever she wanted just because she's Clary's mom. She couldn't keep Clary in a cage and couldn't blame Simon for her daughter's actions. Simon wasn't her keeper and maybe Clary wouldn't be so reckless and would know better what was dangerous if her mom hadn't stolen her memories to keep her "safe".

Sebastian was evil but I hated how Joycelyn told him that she was sorry she didn't kill him when he was born.

I liked having a little cameo from Jules and it was so funny how little Jules was in disbelief because Clary told him that she didn't have any siblings. I was also glad to have more of brother Zachariah and how clearly he loves the Herondales.

I just enjoyed the plot all in all even though I could care less for Jordan and Maia. I'm so glad I started to love Jace and Clary again during this reread. That's probably why I changed my rating from four to five stars. I don't know what it's about certain villains but after everything Sebastian has done-- I just can't hate him. I'm so glad we got more of Jace and Clary and Izzy and Simon. It's too bad Alec ruined things with Magnus.
