Main character syndrome:annoying

But the Sebastian and Jace storyline was actually prettt good

I think this was the best book in the series so far. I loved how the story continued. It was very interesting! Great book!

I've gotten this far, gotta keep trucking till I'm done.

One of the rare books where i skipped pieces of the story. This book has sooooo much sex or sexual tension fluff it annoyed the hell out of me. It really felt like she had to fill the pages to make it a “real” booksized book or something. And how the **** is Clary the only one that loses steles as if they’re breadcrumbs? Hopefully the next will be better..

Ajahsgshshjahs this book was awesome. Way better than the last one. A job well done by Mrs. Clare to be sure.

This is definitely my favourite in the series!

I'm so, very glad i can now read Clockwork Princess freely because honestly, this was the only motive that kept me pushing through this book.

One more book, 500+ more pages and Clary and Jace are still as annoying as they were in all of the previous books.

I understand the existence and the importance of this book, i really do, but what i don't understand is the repetitive pattern The Mortal Instruments books have been following. The book kicks off with Jace missing/kidnaped and Clary whining, ALWAYS whining about Jace, so much happening at once, then a brilliant fight scene at the end.

“I don’t care about Sebastian. I want Jace,” Clary said.”

What's with the constant whining? I've been more than patient with Clary's character, but i'm 5 books in and she's not getting any better. I honestly think she just made it to the top of my worst-female-characters list. Clary keeps giving no shit about anyone but Jace and her needs just like in the past four books, but this time it was way too much for me to handle. I've had enough.

“How she still thought of Max every day and it was like someone had emptied her lungs of air, and she would catch at her heart, afraid she was dying. She could not lose Jace, too.”

Maryse. Strong, powerful, loving Maryse. Maryse has been one of my favourite characters ever since her first appearance in the books. I've always knew there was more to her character than what she was showing, and i've always wanted to read and know more about her. She may seem as a powerful and heartless woman, but when it comes to her children, her heart is as full as anyone's could ever be.

“Eventually he turned his head and kissed Izzy, very lightly, on the forehead; she stirred and murmured but didn’t open her eyes.”

Sizzy finally happened! I've basically shipped Simon and Izzy ever since City of Bones, and their ship has finally, finally sailed! Simon's character arc was very noticeable, and it was so great seeing reading about him becoming more comfortable with himself, finally coming to terms with what he is, and his role getting more and more prominent in the story.

“Isabelle kicked at Alec’s ankle until he moved, unhurriedly, down the hall. She had the feeling if she turned around and looked at him he’d be sticking his tongue out at her, so she didn’t look.”

I will always appreciate a Lightwood siblings scene/moment. I loved how their relationship was portrayed in this book, and how they would go anywhere and do anything to insure the happiness and safety of one another.

“Alec,” Magnus said. [...] “Are you okay?”
Alec looked at him. “Who are you again?“

The fact that Alec is becoming more comfortable with his relationship—despite his parents' different views and thoughts—was definitely worth reading about. Alexander is a very complicated character, and despite taking his relationship with Magnus downhill, his character shone in some other scenes. Reading about his complexities with expressing his love and feelings made me understand his character more and who he truly is behind all his disturbing facial expressions and grumpiness. I personally can't wait to read about him growing more into himself in the last instalment.

I was pretty ((very)) thrilled to read all the Infernal Devices references mentioned in the book, especially the one in the Epilogue chapter because i never saw it coming, despite how silly all this may seem. But to be fair, i was looking forward to the parts where i will notice an Infernal Devices reference.

I'm not 100% sure how i feel about this book, but Clare's imagination will never fail to amaze me. Despite all of my mixed thoughts about this book, what i am sure of is that Sebastian is hands down one of my favourite—if not my absolute favourite—characters of Clare's. Despite his evilness and all the horrible things he did, i'm hoping that he'll have a chance at redemption, because i do believe that he, too, deserves a justification to his doings and all the horrifying things he did.

Clare's ability to end each book with a brilliant fight scene never fails to amaze me. RTC!
medium-paced

On reread it’s a 4.5.
