DID NOT FINISH

I lost interest.

Boring. Writing wasn't necessarily bad but repetitive moments of action followed by nothing in between really. Also, just me or did it feel like each action scene felt the exact same. Really don't like what the relationship between Violet and Xaden has become. It doesn't feel authentic anymore. I loved their story individually and together in The Fourth Wing, but since then just feel like they have changed for the worse and become unlikable. I didn't think their relationship added anything to the series in any way really. I don't even care if they're together. Their connection felt disconnected. Even the "I love yours" didn't feel real anymore; almost like they just said it because they had to. I just didn't feel like it lead the story anymore and that because of that there was no real focus. Even their dragons became annoying. Overall, I was underwhelmed and don't know if I'll continue the series.

All I can think about right now is the ending--holy shit she got me thinking I had another page.

In the beginning third of the book she really expected her readers to have retained every minutiae of the previous books which had me struggling to gain confidence at the start. I did a lot of wiki-ing.

I loved the different cultures she developed on the islands and I'm wondering if we'll hear more about their history in the next books.
