This is going to be short as my brain needs to process this book and I don’t want to post spoilers. Already planning a full series reread at the end of the year. I read along with the audio of this so I was able to read this fairly quick.

I said to myself I was going to take my time with this book. However, the story took over! What a ride that was! This is the best book in the series by far! This was written fantastically

Here’s a list of why:
- violet’s entire personality (if you can even call it that) over the three books is “im short” and “omg xadenn”
- the entire plot is unoriginal and predictable
- all side characters are underdeveloped: we are privy to every little detail of Violet’s backstory, but know close to nothing about other important characters’ pasts (Rhiannon, Ridoc, Garrick, Melgren, Imogen, etc.)
- I don’t mind smut every once in a while or when it’s relevant or makes sense in the story, but Yarros either makes the most random excuses to get the main characters in a bed together, or doesn’t bother at all and throws an obscene chapter at us thinking we’re just a bunch of cheap horny readers who only read for smut.
- i could go on and on, but I’ll spare you the long read. Just take my word for it. This is not a good series.
