Audio: I like the guitar but there were times I could not hear the literal poet over them. Betts has a handsome voice

Poetry itself: poetry itself and I have a rather hot and cold relationship so take my rating itself w a grain of salt but while there’s some lines and topics I adore women exist as a Madonna figure in this poetry collection that find very vague and dismissive of violence against women including by the author and felt like blaming the truly horrible things he lived through or acting like both partners were equally harmful to each other bc of the world when only one is consistently talking about putting or wanting to put hands on the other

Felon is an honest and brutal look at a man affected by imprisonment and the unjust justice system. These poems cut right to the bone.

Personally, the Redacted Poetry was what hit me pretty hard. The irony of redaction humanizing the story of a 'crime' on the page, illustrating how dehumanizing, how blinded the 'justice' system really is.

One of the best books of poetry I’ve read in a long time. Read it.
