I have seen mixed reviews about this book with quite a lot of 3⭐ reviews.
I quite liked it, the story was good and the hate to love trope wasn't bad but it did just seem to come out of nowhere when their opinions of each other changed. The FMC could be a bit annoying at times but not so much that I wanted to stop reading. It was a good book but not a great book in my opinion.

“Go ahead, break my heart. I don’t mind.
You’re a flame I would happily let burn me alive.”

This was a lovely, cozy adventure!
It was a fun mix of Percy Jackson and Alice in Wonderland! It did feel a little cliche at times but it had great Percy-Jackson-esque humour and storytelling!

Cara has been trying her whole life to hide the fact that see ghost. She's kept it hidden from the living and the dead unlike. It's something she has excelled at since she promised her mom at 5 years old, until Zach Coleson, her nemesis, turns up dead in the woods. After she's annoyed into acknowledging his existence as a ghost, everything changes. They must travel together through the liminal world to find the antidote that will bring Zach back to life. Who knows what else they might find along the way.

I really liked this book 4.5⭐. I received it in my September fairyloot box and devoured it in one sitting. It pulled me in quickly and never lost my interest. It is exactly what it is supposed to be, a fast paced YA book. The very few things that bugged me in this book, like who has a nemesis since kindergarten, wouldn't have bothered me as a teen. So, none of those things were considered when I gave my rating.

What really bothered me was the epilogue. If I hadn't read the epilogue I could consider this book finished. Sure, there would have been a couple of unanswered questions, but I could get past that. The epilogue was definitely a set up for another book, but everything is still referring to this as a standalone. Which leaves me unsure of what to think. I'm also not sure what more could be written if this is a series, because the main plot wrapped up very nicely. It'll be interesting to see what's next, if anything is.

What I loved about this book was pretty much everything else. This book was fun and had an interesting quest, but had serious and relatable moments as well. The pull that Cara felt between her mom and her grandma was definitely relatable. I love the fact that she had quite a bit of character growth throughout this book. She grew into her powers and her decision more and more with each space they paced through. The struggles that the other two characters had with their families were also very relatable, especially to someone who is the youngest child.

I really enjoyed Brittany's character. I feel like her presence there helped add something more to the quest. If there is another book, I definitely hope to learn more about her and her life outside of the liminal world.

Loved the characters, the writing, the dynamic between characters and the plot itself. The book was a little on the younger YA side but it was engaging and reminded me a lot of Percy Jackson with how the humour was written. It made me laugh out loud at times and although the main character was a little stubborn, I didn’t mind because she’s a teenager and the way she acted was believable. Really adored this book.
