Saito provides some interesting new interpretations of fundamental aspects of Marxs thinking, using previously difficult to access drafts, manuscripts and other materials to challenge a common view of Marxs Historical Materialism among other aspects of Marxs thinking.
Whilst Saitos reinterpretation is entertaining, thought-provoking and certainly worth further attention, it failed to be entirely convincing to me, relying very heavily on a small number of research notes and (unpubslihed) letters from the years after the publication of the first volume of Das Kapital.
Saito uses this rediscovered Marx as a centerpiece for an engaging and very approachable call for a new Marxist theory and praxis of Degrowth, which he can only explain in broad strokes, given the format of this publication.
