So sad to hear of Sue Townsend's death. This was a book that really captured the minds of young teens in 1980s Britain. It will always stay with me. I should get a new copy for a nostalgic tribute reread.

cute but tough to get my hands on.

Just too funny. Easy to read. Read it waaay back in school already but wanted to read it again. Recognicable and funny.

I have a feeling that teenagers may find this book boring. It is not your typical YA first person drama, and the protagonist is not a likeable enough character. Adults, however, are likely to find this book's witty sarcasm amusing and highly enjoyable. Especially if they remember the 80s and/or themselves as teens or if they have teenage kids. The book has so many quintessential 1980s memories crammed in: the unemployment, the rise of feminism, the Soviet threat still there, all that. And it also has a certain je ne sais quoi, something so unmistakably English, that it seems like a complete and utter cliché to even mention it. But here goes: Adrian Mole is as English as they come, and couldn't have been from anywhere else.

For the English schoolboy in us all.
