Beautiful written and so much care and details put in to research, this is an amazing book. I absolutely enjoyed this book and found it enriching both emotionally and intellectually.

Uses an enslaved women’s work sack to tell her family story. Full of resilience and inspiration. Sometimes a bit repetitive.

Well researched and painful to think about, this incorporated several things I am passionate about. Equity, maternal love, and needlepoint.

Dnf it read as a very dry text book and I honestly couldn't get past the introduction. I really wanted to like this book and was intrigued by the premise.

This book is about a reimagining a sack and its contents as survivors of a multi-generational lineage of Black women. Everything about the tracing of the sack and analysis of its contents was fragile. To read this book is to behold the fragility of life.

The Bayeux Tapestry of an American family.

It’s like thinking you were going to watch a movie based on true events and you are really watching a documentary. Thought this was a novel. More like a textbook, but based on actual events. Lots of assumptions and hypotheses on the sack. All said, a well written account of the horrifying behavior of white men and the horrific plight of slaves and their ancestors. (audio)
